man those eyes look great now. love them.
the tattoo on the check seems kinda flat to me. doesn't feel like it forms over the contour of the face. Strong pc so far, keep it up.

That really does look cool. I actually like the frailness of her
makes her the unlikely warrior that can totally destroy you.
haha.
From the side I think she might want something on her back, maybe wings?
Might be too cliche, but you might want to show off some leg at the bottom and some cool shoes. Otherwise this is very good. Especially the paintings.
Great changes to the eyes! She has a much more warrior expression! I hope she carries a giant sword or some big weapon that those small arms could NEVER carry!
Outstanding render, inspirational work.
Hi guys,
Thanks for the positive comments! I really appreciate it.
I've actually given quite a bit of thought to what Walrus said about the model sheets being in black and white. While there was no specific mention that they couldn't be in color, I've decided to go black and white.
I was looking at the past winners and there is no color until the final illustration and I want to see if I can really push myself to approach things differently and grow. I love putting color in as soon as possible, but I'm taking my time with this and trying to incorporate feedback and approach it outside my box and grow.
So... I've tried to incorporate what you guys have been suggesting. I've given her a hint of feet and started to put a wood design on her back for holding her mystical orbs or whatever they turn out to be. I'm not sure about a weapon yet, which brings me to my initial composition thumbnails.
My first thought was to have her holding a conversation with her pet, completely oblivious to her power and the destruction she is causing. She would be sitting on the only piece of rock not collapsed around her and her enemies would be falling into the chasm and frustrated for not being able to get to her.
My second thumbnail would be her flying to the sky on a trail of roots and earth. The roots would be attacking everyone below.
As far as weapons go, it would be really funny to give her something huge ala Monster Hunter or something like that... I'm not sure. It sort of depends on how I go with a final illustration and I welcome any thoughts or feedback.
Thanks again for your helpful comments and crits. I really appreciate you taking the time to offer any comments you have.
Personally i would like to see the 2 images combined. i like the idea of the top one but i'm not a fan of the girl sitting. But i really like the shot of her floating. I think add the action of her floating/flying to the top one might be cool. I feel like the sitting talking isn't focusing on her enough.
Also i liked the color shots. I don't think it would hurt to keep them in color.
i love her eyes
a quick update on the illustration and some more work done to the model sheet. Feedback welcome as always... I'm still finding ways to fill out the composition more.
Love the color and them sketches! Good luck with the comp for final bud.![]()
Glad to see this is going well. She feels a lot shorter in the action shot than in her model sheets. I like the taller version of her, myself.
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for commenting as always Walrus. Hopefully she looks a bit like her longer self now. I'm still adding more characters to the piece and am not sure about the vines around her right now. I think it's contributing to making her look stumpy (no pun intended). Any other thoughts you have are very appreciated and helpful to me.
I'm also still very much messing with the composition and such. As of now, I think it's not very filled out and I'm still changing things and adding quite a bit. One such change is that I gave her a glove for her artifact. I still think the composition is not very "full" and would like some thoughts on that.
To all the other Game Artisans... Please comment on this and let me know things that you all like and would change to improve this. I really appreciate anyone who takes the time to offer some constructive criticism and hopefully I can use it. Right now, this is very, very preliminary and needs a lot more detailing, so it's all fair game.
this is looking beautiful! really like your style and use of color and lighting - masterful stuff!
My only crit in this early days (lol - looks almost finished to me! so im going to use you to learn how to take a piece furtheris I find it hard to make out her arms - especially her left one - theres some sort of tangent/looping things caused with the clothing hanging of her elbows and the glow connecting to her shoulder guard that threw me at first.
hehe love that guy in the bottom right corner...
really digging the face shot, and your style. your character has instant iconic status
dynamic character and a departure from most of what I've seen here. Looking forward to seeing how her powers affect the enemy.
me again - i keep coming back to this piece - its becoming a fav.
Just wondering if her pose could be pushed more - it feels a bit awkward with her bending at the hips leaning forward. Im seeing her more graceful and lithe - maybe pelvis forward leaning back for more epicness.
Now im going to go and hunt down some more of your work![]()
Looking good as always man. execution is top notch.
One thing kinda sticks out for me is the composition. Alone each character/cliffs..look great but for some reason they don't really seem to be working together. I think a lot of your angles are taking the eye into the upper right corner of your pc. Look at the shoulder pads, the lightning bolt she is shooting, they go right into the angles of the cliff face and hill. my eye keeps moving away from the main focus of the pc. I agree with Mattforsyth the main characters pose could use some more polish.I think a better epic kind of pose would really help out. In your thumb sketches you had her in a sort of pose with her almost floating arms powering up by her side. That had a very powerful feel to it. Her arms are really competing with the shoulder pad things as well. I think the roots/vines are taking away from her, they seem a bit forced.
Having said all that i think your style and rendering are fantastic! Keep pushing it man! Definitely in my top 5.:thumb:
I love the quirky style of your piece. She has a lot of personality. The rendering and her design are beautiful. Not in love with the ground on the last comp. The vines or roots on the left side of her look awkward to me, confuses the space imho. I agree with being careful not to loose the arms. Otherwise, I think it is a good start/significant effort?
Hi guys and thanks for the comments as always.
I completely agree that there are quite a few things that needed to be addressed. I completely redid the main character and am in process of doing pretty much the same for the background. I've also been pulling characters out and putting some in layers to just see how I feel about how they're sitting in the composition. My idea with the big troll guy won't look right as of yet. He's actually going to be surrounded by smaller creatures filing down the mountain and obscuring some of his legs. He's supposed to be waiting in the wings for combat and will likely be obscured by fog and some things like that.
Thanks again for the comments and they've been a huge, huge help to me. I felt like all of them were very thoughtful and was in agreement with pretty much everything. I ditched the vines as well and pushed her torso more in the new pose.
Everything is going to get a lot more polish and I'm counting on really pushing her magic energy to be a compositional element. I've been messing with some thumbnail sketches as to how to work that.
I really love the last one.... one thing i feel i should point out though is that she doesn't seem to be the center of attention, overall an amazing idea, but i think she should draw your eye more than the other elements of the picture.
