Journal : October 13th 1885. Borga Pass, Carpathian Mountains. " I am too late! The sun has almost set, it is as if the elements themselves protect this monster and hinder my every step."

Picked at this in my freetime over a couple of days. What attracted me to it was not so much the subject matter but more the pallette of the news images seen on TV. It seems the most inspiring and beautiful places on this earth are always in Conflict.

Knight of the North The Knights of the north are famed for their brute strength and incredible courage. It is a custom for them to wear a head piece made from the head of an Ice bear to instill fear into their foes.

Winter Solstice Temple: The ruins of a temple high the moutains, aligned perfectly to the sun on the Winters solstice. A relatively quick study done over a few hours here and there.

The Temple of Courage: Deep in the heart of the Dark Continent is the Temple of courage. Valiant Knights journey to the temple to prove thier worthiness within its walls. Facing many trials only the most courageous of warriors will survive the temple and cross the bridge to begin thier journey home.

I like the grimness and contrast of subways stations in different districts of cities. This is one from a less affluent area. I tried to play with a theatrical style of lighting and also to try and create movement in a static enviroment. I painted this over last weekend. Thoughts always welcome. Gerard.

The Fortress Of Dros Delnoch. I am a big fan of David Gemmells Novels. In Particular Legend, his first novel. This is my imagining of the great fortress of Dros Delnoch from that book. I approached this as a Movies concept, not spending any more time than necessary to get the concept across. Evidence of this approach is the use of quick photo textures and ref. Picked at it here and there over a couple of evenings. Hope you like. Gerard. :O)

Guardian Lions. Created for a weekly Eow on Conceptart.org Two Gigantic lion stautes guarding the path to an ancient mountain city now lost to history. I have always loved how in fantasy storys a traveller would happen upon ancient statues in the middle of a vast wilderness, hinting at long vanished civilisations. About 2 evenings work in CS 3.

TThe Prince's Graveyard The young Prince has a dark temper the village folk said. He more takes after his Uncle rather than the gentle king his father. With these words echoing through my head I explored the steep slopes of the castle's Northern face. The carrion crows had led me to a dark shadowed cliff ,strewn with human remains, some of them several winters dead. It was there I found the broken mutilated body of the Prince's tutor. The ruby ring given to him in payment by the king for taking on such a difficult pupil. Crouched examing the tutors body I felt I was being watched. Looking up I saw a figure silhouetted by torchlight... Though I could not see see who it was, the malice and hate emanating from this person left me with little doubt that I was in the presence of the Prince. :O) Something fun for Halloween.

Frozen North A place so far north, that it is almost devoid of life, a frozen land, but maybe it wasnt always so.... I hope I managed to capture a sense of epic vastness and that this is a really harsh cold environment.
