Advanced Environment Painting in Photoshop

This 10-week workshop will concentrate on streamlining the process of creating digital landscape paintings. Emphasis will be placed on refining a solid foundation for the painting - from brainstorming stage to final composition - to ensure that all the steps lead up to a successful illustration. A basic knowledge of Photoshop is preferable, but not necessary. The classes will be a combination of demonstrations and workshopping student’s work, introducing advanced tools in Photoshop, and demonstrating the best ways to integrate freehand painting with advanced brushes, layer styles, paths and filters.

Techniques covered will include:
  • Using Photoshop as the ultimate brainstorming tool.
  • Finding and creating a successful color palette.
  • How and when to properly integrate photos and unifying a digital painting.
  • Using channels and paths for precise object selection and creation.
  • Image management through adjustment layers, masks and smart objects.
Students are encouraged to bring in their own work for feedback and demos. Ultimately the goal of the workshop is to provide a deeper insight into the powerful potential of Photoshop as a complete tool for mastering the art of digital painting.
